Lantern Festival

OB's Got Character
Thank you for helping make our annual district-wide service project to help our community such a SUCCESS! During the week of Fill The Barrel, Old Bonhomme's goal was to fill 8 barrels... and by working together we met our goal! As a whole, our district filled a grand total of 59 barrels!

Judy Coyman, Director of Community Relations at Operation Food Search, shared the following, "This food drive positively impacts our most fragile families throughout our community. Your food drive donations not only fill the shelves of our agencies, but also are used in our Cooking Matters classes, in adult job training programs, in after school child feeding programs, in food closets in schools, senior centers and crisis centers. You truly help us nourish our community. Operation Food Search is at its core nothing more than people helping people. We are nothing without your partnership and support. All of you are truly shining examples of what’s best about us in the St. Louis bi-state region. Thank you!"

Art News
The Spring Art Show/Open House was a big success! Thanks to all the friends and families who visited OB to view the magnificent works of art on display Tuesday night. It's always my favorite night seeing the art and the community together!
If you had a conflict and were not able to attend the art show, artwork will be on display for 2 weeks (minus the 3-D work in the art studio) so please stop in as you drop-off or pick-up your artist. We worked very hard this year; Art should be admired and appreciated, come see us shine!
A special thanks to Jenny Kissell, Kelly Bock, Anne Denman-Schlamb, Mr. Schlamb, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Packard for all their help matting, labeling and organizing artwork. A heavy duty thank you to Mr. Woolfolk for carrying up all the display boards from the boiler room! I could never have done it without all of you!
Hats off to Mrs. Brown for all of her tech savvy, getting our QR codes ready in the Computer Lab. Thank you to all the 4th grade teachers for facilitating poetry in conjunction with the 4th grade artwork for their QR codes. It's great to connect in so many ways. And thanks to all the staff who gave up their bulletin boards and display spaces for art's sake!
This year we collected $1410.00 in BoxTops money. I am so grateful to all the families who have clipped, counted and saved for our art program. This night highlights how valuable the extra money is for our program and supplies. On another note, the Art Studio is in need of new water buckets. I need large yogurt containers size 28-32 oz. After 16 years my water buckets are all getting cracked and breaking! Thank you OB community! Love, Mrs. Roth
La'Due It 5K and 1-mile Fun Run
We hope to see you at the La'Due It 5K and 1- mile Fun Run this weekend - Sunday, April 26! On-site registration begins at 7:45a.m. The 5K race time is 9a.m. The Fun Run will follow at approximately 10a.m. This event is brought to you by the district P.E. Department and Wellness Committee.

Don’t miss this end-of-year celebration on Friday, May 1, from 4:30-7:30-p.m. Order forms were sent home with students to pre-order Wristbands and Meal Tickets. Wristbands are $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. All meal tickets must be ordered in advance. Extra order forms are available in the office, and must be turned in by Wednesday, April 22. Success Week Information

This is a week for everyone to reflect on their successes and gear up for what they still want to accomplish.Service Project – Fill the Barrel - April 22-29 This year, Fill the Barrel (formerly Fill the Bus) will kick off during Success Week. This is a district-wide service project to help our community. We are working with Operation Food Search to help collect 12,500 pounds of food. Our building goal is to fill 8 barrels, which is 1,400 pounds of food.

April is Financial Literacy Month
How is your child going to pay for their postsecondary options? There are different ways to start saving a few are 529 and educational savings accounts. You can use
this college cost calculator to see how much it will cost and what you need to save before your child enrolls. It is also important to start talking to your child about life after high school. Here are a few resources you might find helpful. It is Never Too Early - A resource to help Missouri students and their families prepare for college.
Helping Your Child With Career Planning - Because your children's career choices will affect not only them, but you, you have a right and responsibility to help develop their career plans. Career development is an ongoing process starting at birth and continuing through adulthood.
Parent Advisory Town Hall Meeting
Make plans to collaborate with others at the Parent Advisory Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, April 16, at 7-8:30p.m. in the Library. You will have the opportunity to offer feedback to the Character Education, Counseling, PBIS, Olweus, PTO, and Safety committees. The PTO will be providing refreshments. We look forward to working with you to make OB an even better place!

OB's Got Character
April's Character Word of the Month at OB is SUCCESS. Two big events are taking place this month that we need your help to make them a SUCCESS! Success Week will take place April 20-24. The theme this year is Be an All STAR Everyday! We encourage everyone to show their spirit by dressing up according to the theme for each day. SAFETY REMINDERS
Parents, as an important safety reminder, there may be times that the front circle is blocked off for bus use only. This may be due to a field trip that is leaving first thing in the morning. Parents are asked to use the upper blacktop or Stacy Park for student drop off in the morning. NEVER let your child out of the car from Old Bonhomme Road as it puts your child in significant danger since an approaching car is not expecting your car to stop!
Counselor Notes
Individual counseling is available through the St. Louis Children's Service Fund. We have a licensed professional counselor who can meet with your child on a weekly basis for thirty minutes. There are a couple more spaces available. If you are interested, contact Mrs. Arnold at 983-5546 or harnold@ladueschools.net.

OB's Got Character
Our Kindness Campaign is in full swing! Thank you to all the families who have chosen kindness by decorating and sending in a handprint! We are so pleased that more than a "handful" of OB families have already joined in and are hoping All OB family members will join in on our Kindness Campaign and pledge
to Choose Kindness! If you have not done so yet, please "raise your hand" and pledge
to ChooseKindness by decorating a handprint. Decorated handprints should be cut out and returned to the front office as soon as possible. Coming soon..... all the handprints will "bloom" into something special just in time for Spring! Additional handprints are available in the office if needed. SAFETY REMINDERS
No Cell Phone Use (including Texting) on the school parking lot during arrival and dismissal. Let’s all focus on the children and adults helping them. Please make sure that you are pulling into any open parking spaces in the middle or backing into them along the side fence! If you are parked, you must walk your child through the moving traffic. Children must be moving accompanied through the parking lot while other cars are dropping off.

Nurse’s Notes
As the school nurse at Old Bonhomme, the health of our students is my number one priority. Cold and flu season is in full swing, and we are seeing a multitude of illnesses in our school, from the common cold to strep throat. Keeping sick children home until they have been symptom free for 24 hours is one way we can help stop the spread of germs in our school. Reminding children to "catch their coughs" and to wash their hands frequently can help as well. I work closely with the St. Louis County Health Department, so please know that if there are any illnesses which may impact your family's health, you will be notified promptly. Thanks for your help in keeping our students healthy!

Office Notes/Early Pick-up
Recently we have noticed a lot of students being picked up early at the end of the day. Please note that the school day does not end until 3:45 and students are still receiving important instructional time until school dismisses. Also, please keep in mind that leaving early does affect your child’s attendance and those minutes do add up. Please be mindful of this when making appointments for your child.

Life is full of choices and we ask you to "raise your hand" and pledge to Choose Kindness by decorating a handprint (provided in your child's Friday Folders this week). All OB family members are encouraged to take the pledge (OB parents, siblings, staff members, etc.). Decorated handprints should be cut out and returned to the front office as soon as possible. We are hoping more than a "handful" of OB families will join in on our Kindness Campaign and pledge to Choose Kindness! Be on the lookout around the building for all of the handprints to "bloom" into something special just in time for Spring! Additional handprints will be available in the office if needed. Thank

Birthday Club Fees
Parents, we still have 83 students that have not paid the $10 fee for the monthly birthday treat that students receive from Chartwells to celebrate all of the birthdays each month. In order for this program to be a success we need 100% participation. If your child still owes a birthday fee, you will be receiving a notice from your child’s teacher during your parent/teacher conference next week. Thank you in advance for sending in those payments so we can continue the celebrations through the end of the school year.

Remember that Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held next week on Tuesday and Thursday. Did you know you can also schedule a time with one of your child's special area teachers?
