MLK Night - January 19, 2016
It’s a Surprise Party, of sorts! The theme this year... ‘Color Our World.’ Art inspires collaboration, community, dreams, and emotion. Students from a variety of grade levels will be performing a diverse array of poetry, art, music and dance at the high school. We welcome special guest artist, John Jansky. He will create a portrait in a matter of minutes. Who will he paint? Well, that’s the surprise! Come celebrate Dr. King with our students and John Jansky. Here’s a hint, the portrait is of a person who entered college at the age of 15! Any guesses? Join us in the Performing Arts Center at Ladue High School on January 19 at 7:00 p.m. to find out.

Socks and Sandwiches Service Project - January 18, 2016
We are starting to collect socks for our annual Socks and Sandwiches event. Now through January 18, those wishing to participate can donate new socks. The new socks should be delivered to your child’s classroom. Please choose tube socks in large sizes for either men, women, or children. We will collect food items
one week before the event, however gift card donations to an area grocery store can be turned into the office at any time. Stay tuned for more information about grade level donations in your classroom teacher’s newsletter. Thank you!

Let's Help Get More Kids ON THE BALL!
Ladue is working with Normandy School District to help make more great things happen in their schools for students. Mrs. K is specifically working with teachers at Washington Elementary. One of their teachers would like to implement the use of BALL CHAIRS in her room!
We know active sitting is good for our kids -- and other kids, too! If you are so inclined to spread the ball chair love this holiday season, you can read more about Mrs. Kostedt's class and contribute on her DonorsChoose page

OB's Got Character
There were a lot of SMILING faces last week during our second Class Buddy Time! Students met with fellow students in their buddy class(es) to learn about Choosing to Be Nice to others that are different from them. We started off the lesson by sharing the definition of the word diversity, which means being different than others, and emphasized that IT’S OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT! We then read the book, It’s Okay to Be Different, by Todd Parr. After hearing the book, we began a discussion comparing ways we are similar to our Class Buddies, then ways we are different from our Class Buddies. It was great to share our commonalities and celebrate our differences! Then we reflected on the questions, Has anyone ever made you feel especially good or bad about one of your differences? If so, how did you react? What do you like most about one of your differences? How should you treat others that are different than you? After reflection/ discussion time, we engaged in a partnership activity to further celebrate our differences. We wrapped up the lesson by relating it back to the importance of Choosing To Be Nice to people that are different from you. Please consider having a family discussion about the differences among your family members and take some time to celebrate those differences. Please feel free to click on the following link to hear a narrated version of the Todd Parr book before or after your discussions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5jacwCH5_k! We are looking forward to our next Class Buddy Time in January.
