Ladue walks, runs, and cares!
This event is brought to you by the Ladue Schools Physical Education Department and District Wellness Committee. Proceeds will support Due Care, an organization which provides financial assistance to district families and students in need. Bring your old shoes to donate to Shoeman Water Projects, helping bring clean water to communities around the world. T-shirt guaranteed with pre- registration by March 15. To pre-register, go to:

PTO News
A huge thank you to Jodi Blucher and Betsy Kerner for coordinating the OB Scholastic Book Fair, and to Stacy Jurgiel for coordinating the Book Bucks program and making sure every student received a free book from the Book Fair. Also thank you to their amazing committee, who put in a lot of work to make the Book Fair a huge success again this year!
Another PTO thank you goes out to Jennifer Scissors for coordinating the Chess Club this year!
Thank you to Olga Cook and her copy committee for always making sure the teachers have the copies they need and that flyers for OBPTO events are sent home in your child’s backpack. They are in the school each and everyday making sure that the job is done right!
OB’s Got Character
Please mark your calendars for our
annual Fill The Bus event, sponsored by our District Character Education Committee. We will be collecting canned goods starting Monday, March 3, through Wednesday, March 12. And HEADS up: Caps For A Cause will take place on Friday, March 7. Students who bring a canned good to school on Friday, March 7, can wear a hat at school that day! We CAN do our part to make a difference!

Passport Night
We hope you can join us on Friday, March 7, for the Annual OB Passport Night from 6:30-8:30p.m. These are the countries that we have so far: USA, China, England, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, Japan, Korea, Russia, New Zealand, Spain, Zimbabwe and the Philippines. Passport Night is a great experience for the OB students and for all members of the community. If you would like to host another country not listed, or want more information please contact SeƱor Martin at amartin@ladueschools.net.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Remember that Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up the week before Spring Break, on Tuesday 3/11 and Thursday 3/13! Your child's classroom teacher will be in touch to schedule the 20 minute conference with you. Did you know you can also schedule a time with one of your child's special area teachers? Our Art, Music, PE, Spanish, Library, and Technology Integration Coach are all available during the conference times. You can stop by their classroom or schedule ahead to be sure he/ she is available at a time convenient to your other conferences. Their email addresses are listed below:

Medical Alert to all Parents:
The nurse is starting to see more students in all grade levels with illnesses of stomachache, nausea, and vomiting. Most of the students do not have fevers. Please keep your children home if any of these symptoms occur and they may return to school after 24 hours symptom free. Picture the Music Contest
Congratulations to Fiona Ferguson and Lily Hsieh for being selected as one of the top 100 finalists in the St. Louis Symphony Volunteer Association “Picture The Music Contest”. This annual contest promotes listening skills and expression through visual art. Students also learn about musical history and music composers.
They will have their pictures displayed at Powell Hall on February 27-March 7, at Plaza Frontenac on March 10–20, at the St. Louis Public Library, Schlafly Branch on March 21- 31, at St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre City Hall on April 1- 13 and at the Magic House on April 15- 24. The 100 finalists will receive their awards on stage at Powell Hall Thursday, February 27, at 7p.m.

OB’s Got Character

Ladue School District is the KIND of district that cares! Character Education is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and our district is getting in on the celebration by encouraging 25 Acts of Kindness. Has your child been performing random acts of kindness? Please be sure to mark them on the pink sheet that went home in your child's Friday Folder last week! Need an extra one? Extra sheets are available in the front office. All completed sheets should be returned to school by the end of February. Thank you KINDly!

SOAR Recognition
We are excited to finally announce our February SOAR Recognition Celebration! We've been working hard to get it all set up, and plans are in place, so here it is....
For 8 SOAR tickets, your child will have the opportunity to attend February's SOAR Recognition Celebration on March 4, from 3-3:30 pm. The celebration will be a special visit from The Chill hockey team in St. Charles. Their mascot is a polar bear named Shiver, and he will be coming along with players from the Chill hockey team for the visit!
And the fun doesn't end there! Every child who chooses to participate on March 4, will receive a free ticket to a future Chill hockey game.

Scholastic Book Fair
Hopefully you've had a chance to look at the Scholastic Book Fair flyer that came home with your student this week! Use the white envelope attached to the flyer to send in money for your child's book fair purchase and please don't forget to include sales tax in the total amount due.
Our Online Fair is available from 2/24 to 3/2. So even if you can’t make it to the Book Fair, we look forward to having you participate in our Online Fair. And remember, all purchases benefit our school!

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
We have collected $873.00 in Box Tops so far this year. We will continue to collect for the remainder of the year so don't stop sending them in! We will use the money this year to create some Soaring Eagle installations and a mosaic! Thank you everyone for the contributions!!! Mrs. Roth

Scholastic Book Fair
It's time for the Scholastic Book Fair Fiesta!! Our library will be transformed into the book fair the morning of Monday, February 24 and will last through Thursday, February 27. Each class is signed up for a preview day and a buying day. If you'd prefer to visit the book fair with your child, family buying night is Tuesday, February 25 from 5-7:30p.m. We'll also be open bright and early on Thursday morning, (2/27) starting at 7:30a.m. If you want, you can stop by when you drop your student off at school, just remember to sign in at the office first! Funds raised benefit our library so join us and support our Old Bonhomme readers!
FIRST Lego League Robotics Scramble
Wednesday, February 26, 2014, 6:30-8p.m at the Fifth Grade Center
Parents and students, come learn about FIRST LEGO League (FLL), a robotics program for 9 to 14 year olds, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology and teach them valuable employment and life skills. Kathy Reuter, the FLL Operational Partner for Eastern Missouri (who also runs a summer Lego Robotic camp here in town), will be on hand to talk about the program, as well as Karen Engelkenjohn, the gifted specialist at Reed Elementary who has coached countless FLL teams over the past 8 years, and is a member of the St. Louis FIRST LEGO League Planning Committee, as well as Co-Chairperson of the Junior FIRST LEGO League Committee in St. Louis. In addition, several teams that competed this Fall in the Nature's Fury competition (including the Eastern Missouri state champions) will be there to show students their robots in action, as well as share information about the inventions they came up with. Parents who coached these teams will also be on hand to answer any questions about what is involved in coaching a team. OB's Got Character

SOAR Recognition
Our January SOAR Recognition Celebration was a huge success! Those who chose to participate had “sno” much fun on Friday, Jan. 31 during lunch! Thank you “sno” much to our very own principal, Mrs. K., Superintendent, Dr. Jahnke and Ladue Board Member, Mrs. Goldstein, for helping make and serve up the sno cones!
