Notes from the Nurse
Cold and flu season is now in full swing, and I wanted to remind everyone of the policies we have in place to keep our students as healthy as possible.
Fever: Children with a temp of 99.9 or higher should stay home. Please keep your child home until they have been fever-‐free for 24 hours without the use of OTC fever medications (such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc.).
Vomiting: Children who have vomited at school will be sent home, and children who have vomited at home should not be sent to school until they are able to keep a meal down. Although Ladue School District does not have a policy stating that children must be vomit-‐free for 24 hours before returning to school, I recommend allowing 6-‐8 hours to have passed after eating to make sure the meal stays down.
Pink eye/Strep throat: Children diagnosed with pink eye should stay home until they have received 2 doses of antibiotic eye drops. Children with strep throat should stay home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
Also, it is not too late to get your child a (lu shot! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all children 6 months and older receive one every year. There is also a needle-‐less version available called Flu Mist, ask your doctor about it!
OB' Got Character!
All LECC, Elementary, Middle, and High School families are encouraged to attend this year's Community Basketball Chili Supper! Please mark you calendars to join in on this community building event on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 5–7p.m. in the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Cafeteria. More detailed information about this event will be communicated through a Peachjar flyer soon.

LOST & FOUND
WARNING: All unclaimed Lost and Found items will be donated over Winter Break. So please be sure to stop by Lost and Found to check for any missing items!
LATE CHECK IN
Parents, when bringing your child in late to school please remember that they should check in at the office to receive their late slip and make a lunch choice so they are not marked absent for the day. It is also very disruptive to the classroom teacher when students are escorted to the classroom by the parent as they have begun teaching. So please be respectful of this and let your child walk down to the classroom on their own. Thank you for your cooperation.

OB's Got Character!
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, November 18, at 7pm, at LHWHS, for an extraordinary performance of Metro Theater's play, UnSorted. Please plan to bring along your entire family, and encourage your neighbors to attend (even if they don't have students attending any of the Ladue Schools). The play is a great conversation starter for all ages as our community talks about issues of race, diversity, and civil disobedience. This play ends its tour at the end of November, so this will be your last opportunity to see it. We hope you will consider stepping into the "mixety" world of UnSorted with us while you still can! It truly is the SORT of experience you won't want to miss out on!Thank you in advance for helping to spread the word, and we hope to see all of you there. For more detailed information about the play, please visit Metro Theater's website at http://metrotheatercompany.org/performances/touring-productions/unsorted-2/.
Please email Lori Humphrey at lhumphrey@ladueschools.net if you have any questions.
Giving Assembly
It is collection time!! This is an opportunity for OB Families to donate canned goods, books, household, school supplies, gently used clothing, baby supplies and toys. Your donations will be delivered to local charities serving the Greater St. Louis Area— Please send your donations to school November 17-24. Adult volunteers are also needed those mornings from 8:45-9:30a.m. to assist with sorting and boxing the donations. By now you should have seen a volunteer sign-up sheet in your child’s backpack. If you missed it or have any other questions, please feel free to contact Stephanie Carpenter at stef.carpenter@gmail.com, or Suzanne Epstein- Lang at s.e.lang@sbcglobal.net. This is an OBPTO sponsored event.
Nursing News
The nurse is in need of gently used clothes for the clinic, especially boy's pants and girl's shirts. If your child has outgrown some clothes recently and you would like to donate them, feel free to drop them off in the clinic.
Lost and Found
With the weather turning colder outside, students will be wearing warm coats and accessories to school each day. Did you know the Character Council group who oversees the Lost and Found at Old Bonhomme routinely matches labeled times to their owners? In fact, when items are labeled with your child's last name, they are able to deliver them directly to your child's classroom! Are all of your child's coats/accessories labeled with their last name? If not, please take a moment to do so, to help ensure the Character Council Lost and Found Committee is able to return lost items to your child. Thank you!

LEF NEWS
October was a big month for the Ladue Education Foundation!
Thanks to our Ladue School District parents, educators and sponsors, the LEF held another successful Community Breakfast and ‘Due Run 4 Education, raising funds to support the excellence of the district.
The 8th Annual Community Breakfast was especially successful, thanks to the generous presenting sponsors: Morgan Stanley, Kurt Jaeger, Robert Millner and Michael Karasick, and the Das Family Foundation. The event provided an opportunity for guests to hear All- Star Teacher Hank Kauffman speak, as well as

to learn from students how LEF grants have impacted them.
The 2nd Annual ‘Due Run was presented by Stifel and the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Class of 1994 in memory of classmate and Navy Seal Will Bushelle. A special thanks to the many Class of ’94 members who donated and participated.

Finally, a unique and successful fundraiser provided by Artistic Soup Photography gave families an opportunity to have portraits taken by photographer Angela Lamb while raising over $2,300 for the LEF. We are extremely grateful to Angela for her creative way of contributing to the education of our kids, and we welcome other ideas from the community!
As always, the LEF encourages you to learn more, get involved and consider making a donation through the website http://laduefoundation.org/wordpress/donate/. Thank you for helping the LEF provide extraordinary opportunities to the students of our district!

Are you thinking that you have had enough, but don't want it to go to waste?
Are you aware that there are children that don't get to go trick-or-treating and would love a few treats?
We have a solution!
Bring candy to the office by Wednesday, November 5. All candy will be boxed up and taken to the local Ronald McDonald House for other children and families in our community to enjoy.

OB's Got Character
Thanks to a generous grant from the Ladue Education Foundation (LEF) and the OBPTO, Old Bonhomme students and staff were treated last week to a live performance of Metro Theater Company's new play, UnSORTed! The day after the performance we "mixed things up" at OB by having a “Mixety” dress day.
While some students chose to dress “mixety” on the outside, others came to school with their "mixety-ness" inside of them! It was a great example of how all of us have a bit of "mixety" in us, whether inside, outside or BOTH!
The UnSorted performance is the SORT of performance that would be exciting for our entire community to have the opportunity to experience! And also a special thanks to our AWESOME PTO for surprising our students and staff with STL250 “Meet Me at Field Day” T-Shirts! Our PTO Rocks!
Thank you Sharon Rosenberg and Al Snyder and their committee for an awesome Kindergarten Social with Juggling Jeff.
Thank you to Jen Jim and Jenny Kissel and the First Grade Social committee for a terrifying night with Serengeti Steve and his reptilian friends.
CURE MEETING
The CURE parent group is a networking opportunity for parents/guardians of African American students. Meetings, facilitated by Superintendent Dr. Donna Jahnke, involve the exchange of information and ideas. CURE will meet on Thursday, October 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Administrative Center. More information about CURE can be found on the district’s website under “Parent Information” and “Organizations.”

October SOAR Event-
October’s SOAR event is sure to be full of character, book characters that is! Students can exchange 15 SOAR tickets for the opportunity to dress up as their favorite book character on Friday, October 31. All dress-up outfits should be appropriate for school and should not include masks, contain weapons of any type, or be of a gory nature. Students are encouraged to bring the book, picture of the book, or a drawing of the favorite part of the book that their character comes from. Classroom teachers will be using this event to generate conversations about new books kids may want to read. You might even spy a teacher or two turning into a favorite book character!
Did you know that one of the best parts of earning a SOAR ticket is the fact that students get to choose what they do with it? Students can turn their SOAR ticket into the weekly drawing box and have the chance to hear their name announced over the intercom, they then get to pick out an item of their choosing to take back to class. Many students choose to save their tickets to participate in the monthly SOAR event. These events cost anywhere from 5-15 tickets and change each year. The Eagle’s Nest is another option for those that like to save their tickets. Items in the Eagle’s Nest cost more SOAR tickets but they are designed to help kids make special memories with staff.
A Note From BASK-
Attention BASK Parents, please remember to notify the BASK Director, as well as the classroom teacher, when your child will NOT be attending BASK for any reason. The BASK Director can be reached by email at leddins@ladueschools.net.

OB’s Got Character!
October's Character Word of the Month is RESPONSIBILITY. Old Bonhomme students are responsible at school for being in control of their bodies, being in control of their voices and doing their work. Consider sharing with your child what your responsibilities include during the day. Do you share any of the same responsibilities?
Did you know Metro Theater Company's new play, UnSORTed, is coming to Old Bonhomme? On October 9, we will be SORTing it out at OB! It's the SORT of performance we are all looking forward to! The Ladue Education Foundation, along with our OBPTO, are RESPONSIBLE for funding this extraordinary opportunity for OB! OB is very thankful for them accepting OB's grant request to bring this performance to our school! For more detailed information about the play, please visit Metro Theater's website at http://metrotheatercompany.org/performances/touring-productions/unsorted-2/. By the day of the performance at OB, all students will have participated in Pre- SORTing activities within individual classrooms and/or with their buddy classes. Ask your child about them! Consider having a SORT in your own home!
It would be SORT of exciting for our entire community to have the opportunity to see UnSORTed, wouldn't it? Thanks to the LEF and OBPTO, our community will have that opportunity! Stay tuned for the announcement of the date of our upcoming evening performance!!
Got Ladue Spirit? Consider showing your spirit during the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 11! The parade begins at 12p.m. at Ladue Middle School and ends at the High School parking lot. The parade route will go west on Conway Road and then south on Warson Road. All are encouraged to show their spirit along the parade route! Old Bonhomme fourth grade students have the opportunity to represent our school by walking in the parade. Permission slips were handed out to fourth graders last week, and were due to the office on Friday, October 3.
Lost & Found- With the weather turning colder, don’t forget to label your child’s things and to stop by the Lost and Found in the Primary Hallway to look for any missing items. Also, don’t forget to check the office for items like eyeglasses, cell phones, jewelry etc.

Innisbrook News- The Innisbrook fundraiser for the Old Bonhomme PTO has concluded. We are thrilled to announce that we exceeded our goal in both Innisbrook sales and the resulting profits that will go directly to the PTO. Our sales were over $5,000, and our PTO profit is approximately $2,400. Once all the payments are in, we will know the exact amount made for the OBPTO. To all who participated in this fundraiser, THANK YOU!! We tried Innisbrook as a replacement for the Entertainment Book fundraiser which has typically been held at the start of school each year, and we are very happy with the Innisbrook results. Your purchases will be delivered to the school in the first part of October, and we will communicate to you in early October the dates and times for product pick-up. We know there are a lot of efforts underway to raise funds for the OBPTO, and we appreciate whatever you choose to give, in whatever way is best for you and your family. Our OB School Community is AMAZING and so supportive of the PTO and its efforts. Thank you again for supporting the Innisbrook fundraiser and helping us surpass our goal. All proceeds will go to provide the great arts field trips, school events, performances, and activities for your children and our teachers that the PTO funds.
Next up.....Bowling for Bonhomme on October 18!! Hope to see you there!
Time to Eat and Run for Ladue Education- Registration is now open! Join us for breakfast on October 9, and follow up with the 'Due Run on October 11.
Both are wonderful ways to have fun and support the Ladue Education Foundation's mission of creating extraordinary possibilities for our next generation of leaders.
The LEF is made up of parents and community leaders who work together to support the crucial programs necessary for our students to stay competitive and become future business, economic and community leaders. This is done by providing grants for programs such as robotics, business plan competitions, math technology systems and library collections.
