Mrs. K’s News to Share
The OBPTO event on Saturday night was followed by a visit on Sunday by a group of former Old Bonhomme students and teachers.
This group of former kindergarten and first grade classmates and their teachers gather regularly and requested a tour of the school. I met them here on Sunday and was surprised to find almost 30 people from as far away as New York and California! They even sang an Old Bonhomme school song :)
On Tuesday this week, I joined 2 classrooms as a student. Our Superintendent, Dr. Jahnke, challenged building administrators to “be a student for the day!” I spent the morning as a student in 4P and the afternoon with 1S. I’m still gathering my thoughts about the experience but a few things stood out right away. Read my blog to learn more! You’ll soon find pictures and more information about both experiences on my blog http://obeprincipalblog.blogspot.com/
CONGRATULATIONS!
We were informed this week that Old Bonhomme Elementary School has been selected as the recipient of the Gysbers Success Designation Award. This award is in recognition for commitment to fully implementing a comprehensive guidance and counseling program focusing on the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. Full implementation signifies that the program incorporates a results-based approach in the evaluation of its program using relevant student data to demonstrate the impact of guidance interventions on student outcomes. There is a growing body of evidence that more fully implemented comprehensive guidance and counseling programs make a value added contribution to student achievement and other positive student outcomes.
Mrs. Arnold, our school counselor, works extremely hard to deliver our comprehensive guidance and counseling program but she is always quick to point out that it takes a team. Her success is achieved with the collaboration and support of the staff, parents and students. Our entire staff and community can be proud of the work being done by the school counselor and staff at Old Bonhomme. Congratulations, Mrs. Arnold, and thank you for your leadership and hard work!

Counselor Notes
Begin with the End in Mind
This week your children learned about Habit 2 of the Seven Habits of Happy Kids Begin with the End in Mind. Having a plan is an important part of being successful. In addition to reviewing the material sent home this week after your child's counseling lesson, make sure you visit obschoolcounseling.blogspot.com. Click on the Individual Student Planning link to find more tools to help you and your child plan for their future. The Parent Guide to Student Appraisal is a great resource for you to have a better understanding of the assessment tools we use at OB. Your child will enjoy playing the College and Career Readiness games featured at the bottom of the Individual Student Planning page.
OBPTO Rock n’Bowl for Bonhomme
Thank you to the OBPTO for a wonderful event last Saturday night! It was a great evening for parents and staff to mingle and enjoy some laughs together. Best of all it was for a good cause, supporting activities and purchases that make Old Bonhomme special. Like our Fine Arts Field Trips, technology, and benches for our upper blacktop! It was a great way to get over the Cardinal’s loss that night also.
LEF Breakfast & ‘Due Run
The Ladue Education Foundation's Annual Community Breakfast and 'Due Run 4 Education was a whopping success, raising more than $45,000 for outstanding educational programs for our kids.
We are truly grateful to our community for the enthusiasm and energy they brought to both events! The Breakfast was a full house, and the 'Due Run's participants doubled in number this year.
At the 'Due Run, more than 340 people began a gorgeous Homecoming day with a 5K or 1-Mile run starting from Ladue Horton Watkins High School. Adults, kids and teams, brought their running shoes and can-do attitude to this fun family event.
Guests at the Breakfast enjoyed learning from Dr. Jahnke about the latest initiatives in the District, as well as hearing from current students and alumni. Pulitzer Prize-winner Ben
Solomon charmed everyone with his appreciation for teachers, and Carol Weisman kept the crowd laughing with her hilarious take on growing up in the Ladue schools, and why it's so important to support our District. Thanks to everyone for the generous support you gave in dollars and time! For more information about upcoming events and to learn how you can get involved in the exciting work the LEF is doing on behalf of our children, see www.laduefoundation.org.
Red Ribbon Week-Students Cast your Vote!
We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 26-30. Each Fall, schools and community organizations across the United States use this week to focus on turning young people away from making weak choices. Red Ribbon Week is a time to promote strong choices, good character, and a healthy lifestyle for children of all ages. This is a good time, for you to talk with your children about drugs, safety and being the best they can be.
This year students get to vote on one of our Red Ribbon Week dress up days. Have your child click here to cast his or her vote. Check next weeks newsletter for a full list of theme days.
OB's Got Character
Last Monday we began reciting the Choose To Be Nice (CTBN) Promise during morning announcements. We will continue to recite the CTBN Promise each Monday during morning announcements throughout the school year. Please consider practicing it at home, and maybe even making it a part of your home routine one night of the week.
"I promise to help spread kindness wherever and whenever possible. And to the very best of my ability, I'll be nice to those with whom I come into contact on a daily basis."
Lost and Found
With the weather changing, please be sure you have labeled all jackets with your child’s name so lost items can easily be returned to them.
